After a sudden loss in her family, Nikki returns home to help her parents grieve. She spends time in an aquarium in an effort to get away and befriends a teen conservation worker, CJ, and a broadnose sevengill shark, Malcom. Their friendships evolve, but Malcom begins taking on human feelings that can't live in a shark body.
